What is it about the peacefulness that comes with the light tap, tap of a summer rain on the windowpane? How softly and shyly it beckons before fitting a sure and stable presence.

Harder, faster and louder it increases as whether to shout, “Here I am! Take notice!” A hoarse growl of thunder rolls in the distance. The clink of hail. The moaning winds. The persistence of the downpour continues well into the dark hours until, quite without notice, the thunder sleeps. The hail ceases. The wind lowers to a whisper.

All is still apart from for the light pitter-patter of rain droplets. Just as timidly as it entered, the rain bids a well mannered farewell. “Until we meet again.”

That was some random inspiration I had during a rainy evening. I may use it in a book someday but for now it fits here. 🙂 Does anyone else find rain relaxing? For me, there’s nothing better than curling up with a good book while the rain beats down external. Unless, of course, it’s snowing and there’s hot chocolate. Which is a whole different level of coziness.

I’d like to recommend some of my favorite reads that are perfect for a rainy day.

The Good Goblin by David McElroy

A sweet and gentle goblin who loves reading the classics. What’s not to enjoy?

Peter Pan by J.M Barrie

A fun escape from reality. Perfect for all ages.

The Book of Three by Lloyd Alexander

First in the series, this high-fantasy adventure will keep you turning the pages.

The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame

I can’t think of a cozier read than this carefree and whimsical tale.

Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt

A beautiful and timeless story.

Looking throughout my list, I notice all of these books fall under the fantasy genre. Hmm. What are you favorite rainy day reads? I’d love to hear your recommendations. Have you read any of these? Whether so, what are your thoughts?

Until next time! Happy Reading!
